Employment Possibilities

329 words | 2 page(s)

Working on some of my community investigations has helped me to unearth some useful avenues of networking that can help all my peers. One of the useful agencies that I have found is the Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) that was formed in every county following the passage of the Kendra’s Law in August 1999. The passage of the Law saw the Department of Mental Health setting up a process for Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT).

The law helps in the treatment of people with serious mental illnesses that refuse to conform to their treatment plan. The department is in need of forensic consultants as there is need for evaluation to determine the genuine cases. In some cases, patients might refuse treatment for issues that they can deal with. The forensic psychologist comes into the picture as he is able of distinguishing cases where some patients needs to be given treatment while on the outside and cases where the patients need to be ordered to the hospital (National Organization for Victim Assistance, 2015).

Another agency, which I believe can benefit greatly from forensic consultants, is the SPOA (Single Point of Access) Committee for Adults. The committee incorporates residential, case management and other service providers and crusaders to monitor applications for eligibility and plan for appropriate appraisals and interviews. This is an important committee as it determines whether the adults applying for housing and other government projects are suitable for those services.

This is an important agency as there are numerous individuals in the society that are in need of treatment services. The forensic consultant comes in to determine whether the cases that are presented for evaluation are genuine to ensure that the program does not lock out genuine cases in favor of impostors (Ackerman, 2006). I believe that my peers can greatly benefit from this agency in terms of getting employment opportunities.
