The demand for healthcare services will now grow at an unprecedented rate due to a wide range of factors such as more people having healthcare insurance in the U.S., aging population, and an increased emphasis on preventive healthcare. Yet there are legitimate concerns that the healthcare sector may not produce physicians at a rate sufficient to meet the rising demand for healthcare services. I have often dreamt of bringing comfort to others through my work but this potential shortage of physicians has also played a major role in my career choice.
I embrace change and I realize the roles of physicians may change significantly. I am adequately prepared to meet new challenges such as more extensive use of technology in the provision of healthcare services and working with more diverse group of patients. The later factor is especially important in the age of globalization which has rendered geographical boundaries less relevant.

The fact that soft skills such as communication and cross-cultural skills are as important if not more than technical knowledge in most professions, has not escaped my attention. Not only I can communicate in multiple languages but have also extensively travelled both within and outside the U.S.
Internet may have been credited with revolutionizing communication and access to information but I have learnt from personal experiences that nothing comes close to travelling when the goal is to learn about other cultures. I am confident my cross-cultural knowledge will prove quite valuable in providing the highest level of comforts to patients from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. I am also proud of my cross-cultural skills because one of my career goals is to volunteer my services in some of the most impoverished regions of the world because economic progress is not possible without raising local education and health standards.
