In the novel, we encounter the lead character, who is a twelve-year-old boy Moose Flanagan. He does babysit his sister, Natalie, after school. Natalie has a mental problem, a fact that makes her mother be at a point of self-denial. Moose struggles to get his sister to a special school that caters for the needs of the mentally challenged. Moose fears even when her sister interacts with one particular prisoner. According to him, her state really makes her vulnerable and should be always on the watch (53).
