America has been in the efforts to combat crime and insecurity over the last decades. It is apparent that the combination of the three American arms of government brings about social security towards unity and peace. On being appointed by President Donald Trump as the Homeland Security Secretary, I would advise him on certain immigration issues and policies to adopt to make sure that Americans are protected from further attacks and enhance peace and security. For instance, his administration must make immigration not only a federal responsibility, but also a local and state duty (Gaines & Kappeler, 2014). The federal government is capable of strengthening border defenses and controlling immigration to the country. Trump should encourage all state and local public agencies under his administration to take part in regulating immigration activities and policies. He should seek advice from state leaders, and local agents that play a crucial role in enhancing peace in the country.
Recently, we have seen conflicts between Trumps administration and Syria whereby, he had used chemical weapons to attack them instead of initiating peace deals to end such differences. In such a case, it would be essential for the United States President to enhance peace negotiations with such countries. Poor immigration policies might have the cause of such conflicts that existed even before Trump’s regime and therefore, he should come up with better management of immigration policies that will include all state agencies ranging from the federal government to the state and local departments. For example, the state and local officials can engage in immigration policy implementations through associating with the federal government to investigate the immigration status of the people in their jurisdiction and also enforce immigration policies under the federal authorities’ supervision (Coleman, 2012). This would be essential in hindering unauthorized entry into the United States by any means and thus, protect the United States from further conflicts and attacks.
