Ganor in his book gives tips on understanding the mindset of terrorists and terrorists’ groups. He explains that terrorists do not attack without a particular reason. Ganor makes it known that terrorists are always motivated by something. One of the reasons mentioned is instilling fear. Terror groups rejoice when they see governments and citizens’ panic because of them. They do so to obtain recognition. Another reason given by Ganor is to satisfy vengeance. Some terrorists that have their members locked up in prisons or killed always seek to revenge. For one life lost they can terrorize a whole nation. Ganor further clarifies ways in which governments can counter terrorism and keep terrorists at bay.
All the three articles demonstrate a full understanding of terrorism and what motivates terror groups. However, Ganor gives a more comprehensive approach of terrorist activities and even suggests remedies to the problem. The book proposes tightening of immigration rules and beefing up security in all public places like shopping malls and stadiums. As it has been observed, terrorists usually target areas where there are large masses of people. Bilal gives the reader and understanding of the existence of the terror groups, what they gain and who funds them. The three articles share the view that terrorism can be managed or controlled. Governments should be on high alert and endeavor to protect their borders. The international community at large should have forums to discuss terrorism and promote peace among nations. If all countries come to an agreement of eliminating terror, then no country would harbor terrorists.
The three articles are articulate in giving relevant information on terrorism. The authors have demonstrated immeasurable understanding of the terrorism issue. Combating terrorism needs a comprehension of operations and strategies of terrorist organizations. Information on the motivation and sources of funding is paramount to understanding the cause of the problem.
The three books are coherent relative to the subject matter. Through the articles, one can understand the operations and mindset of terrorism organizations. The authors have made it clear to readers on the possible factors that motivate terrorists.
As a homeland security officer, I would find ‘The Counter-Terrorism Puzzle’ by Boaz Ganor more useful. Ganor explains the mindset and motivational factors that inspire terror acts. The book gives a detailed perspective of previous attacks and the possible reasons why they occurred. Ganor also offers solutions to deal with terrorism which comes in handy to prevent the vice.
