College is a time when people learn a wide variety of skills, both inside and outside of the classroom. Education as a whole, and college in particular, is a free-form experience where individuals learn at their own rate, but more than that, they learn according to their focus area and what they want to learn. With that in mind, within my discipline, I learned valuable critical thinking skills, gaining the ability to view a situation and make determinations on the economic implications. My learning did not stop there, of course. In addition to gaining skills within the classroom, I learned how to budget my time, and being from Hong Kong, I learned the value of independence, as my education took me far away from my parents, family, and the rest of the people I grew up with.
Learning in the classroom taught me more than just a few economic doctrines. While I certainly did learn economic concepts that I can now apply, my education has been much more about learning to apply my brain to seemingly difficult questions. With that education, I am able to handle moving parts, looking at difficult situations to determine just what their implications might be. I have learned extremely valuable critical thinking skills that enable me to take knowledge from a book and use it to better understand the actual things that happen in the world.

On top of that, college has taught me many things outside of the classroom. I have learned to become independent, using my money efficiently. Because I am from Hong Kong, college has also been a cultural adjustment. With that in mind, I have learned to enjoy the culture at my culture, fitting in where I can while also learning how to balance my own culture with the new things that I am learning.
