The last eight years have been some of the best years of my life. I joined this school fourteen years ago but it was only during the last eight years that I had the privilege to work with you and to get to know you as an individual. I came from another country so the early years were challenging. Fortunately, I soon gained another family after meeting you. You did not only become a family I longed for but also became my mentor. You make me thankful to be a teacher because I see the passion you have for your students and the difference you make in their lives.
I wish I had cool teachers like you when I was young. Maybe I would have given fewer troubles to my poor parents. Your students love school because you make learning fun for them. You treat your students as equal partners in the education system. You do not demand attention from them but instead earn it. You are not just a teacher to them but also their best friend. You treat each student as if he/she is the most important person in the class. No wonder, your students love you and look forward everyday to interact with you. You cultivate love for learning in your students that will continue to serve them well for the rest of their lives.
You take your job seriously yet you also understand that humor improves the mood. You skillfully employ your amazing humor in teaching and also utilize it to brighten the day of your colleagues when they may be feeling down. I have thanked god everyday to have a colleague and friend like you who has become a family to me. Even though I will be teaching a different class now and our professional interactions may decline, you will always be a family to me because family is for life.

I have watched you closely over the years and have learned a lot from you. You enjoy teaching because you believe in the sacred mission of education for all. I have learned we can only give our best to our work if we do not treat it as work but as the purpose of our life. You have also taught me that a teacher is first and foremost a student. You welcome opportunities to learn about anything and learn from anyone, even your students. I am not surprised you have such a close relationship with your students and your colleagues because you have an amazing ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and see the things from their point-of-view.
You are the best and most considerate colleague one can think of because you make everyone’s job easier. You treat all tasks as urgent projects that should be finished on a priority basis. The word ‘procrastination’ does not exist in your dictionary. I was deeply moved upon finding out that one of the major reasons you treat all tasks as urgent matters is your concern for your colleagues. You understand people may have family commitments or they may encounter unexpected emergencies, and you try to ensure their professional commitments do not get in the way of their family committments. It speaks volumes about your exemplary character that you are thinking of your colleagues’ best interests even while fulfilling your professional responsibilies.
I was hesitant when I was offered the opportunity to teach primary class because I did not want our working relationship to end. I entertained the idea of declining it but you persuaded me to take it because you have always thought the best of me. You also played a major role in my decision to pursue a graduate degree in Early Childhood Education. I thank God for a sincere friend like you who always pushes me to do my best and realize my true potential.
I came to this country in search of a better future. I think I have been a little too lucky because I also found my second family in you. You have helped me become a better person by helping me improve my self-confidence, and you have never hesitated to point out my weaknesses. Sincerity is a very rare and valuable gift in his world so thank you for extending your sincerity to me.
