In terms of the modern world, one of the most pressing issues that faces all humans is that of the present level of air pollution that is in most cities. Many of these areas are often heavily polluted, to the point that it is unsafe for the citizens who live there. In many mega-cities like Delhi, India, the issue is so bad that health organizations have proposed solutions to help prevent the effects of air pollution and find ways to clear up the air in the city itself. This Indian territory is commonly statistically known as the most polluted place in the world. This is largely due to the large population of the area which is densely packed and heavily urbanized. (Rosencranz, 3) The territory, which is approximately half of the overall size of Rhode Island, has a population which is essentially twice the size of New York City. (Rosencranz, 3) As a result of this, many citizens are constantly exposed to harmful chemicals and pollutants in the air and water. There needs to be some sort of solution proposed to help remedy these effects, possibly one that is similar to the revolutionary approach that the country of China is utilizing currently.
In many ways, China has changed the way that pollution is approached on a global scale. This year, the country has proposed a solution that involves converting the smog that is present in the air into diamonds through a process of compression. The Smog Free Project has developed a system which sucks up the smog, while simultaneously cleaning the air to a nano-level. (Woollaston, 2) Under approximately 30 minutes of pressure with this system, the smog in Beijing which is around 32 percent smog, could be turned into diamonds. This type of project and solution could help provide many solutions overall, but most prominently, it could systematically decrease the high levels of smog that are currently present in the air at Delhi. This system is innovative in the way that it proposes cleaning technologies and the integration of a different approach overall to the problem of air pollution. Previously, it was thought that there aren’t many ways to treat the issue of air pollution but this solution is a self-sustaining one that could impact the treatment of air pollution on a global scale. (Rosencranz, 3) Furthermore, the money that could be made from the diamonds that would be generated could go towards the production of more towers. In an area such as Delhi, a system such as this could provide a platform for reinvigorating the area entirely. As such, the area is exposed to significant levels of poverty and other forms of pollution, such as water contamination. Over-population and intense urbanization contribute to the level of air pollution itself, and this has catalyzed the development of the area into a region rife with both economic and environmental issues. (Rosencranz, 3)
As such, it is worth considering the Smog Free Project or a similar project which focuses on converting the dense smog around Delhi into viable diamonds or other products through the systematic compression of the chemicals that linger in the air. Such programs could set a precedence for how these types of pollution are handled going forward. Given the fact that this is an issue that is rapidly increasing as populations and urbanization both grow, any solution that is utilized by a country as populated as India is could help to define how the issue is treated in the future. Furthermore, such a program is self-sustaining and the overall applications that could be used by this format could develop more towers and in turn, allow for a higher turnout rate from the system itself given the ability to generate profit from it as well.
