Johansson, Mark. These Global Travel trends Will Define 2013. International Business Times, Wednesday, February 27, (2013).
According to the author Tourism is an important component of local, state and even national development. As an industry, tourism is anchored within the aims of creating channels of revenue and even foreign exchange. All forms of tourism facilitate exploration for the tourists and the pull factors available within major areas of destination clinch tourists’ needs. The contribution of tourism in strengthening the economic base of the state and the nation cannot be underestimated. In any country tourism is the source of revenue be it international or domestic tourism. The benefits to local residents within the tourist attraction sites are also invaluable.

The role of tourism goes beyond mere economic interests. In a deeper sense, tourism enhances environmental conservation through myriad processes. The aesthetic value of the environment is enhanced through beautification of tourist attraction sites. In this sense ecotourism plays an integral role in environmental conservation and sustainability. The pursuit for green environment has been one tenet of tourism and some of the major environmental challenges can find remedy in tourism. Although marginal and rural areas have produced decent tourist attraction sites urban areas and cities have also provided exemplary tourists sites.

Anon. Global Tourism & Travel Trends, 2013
According to Anon, tourism is traveling for business, leisure and business purpose. Tourism can also be traveling and staying in a place for not more than a year. Tourism has been said to be a promising driver for the economy of the world. The size of the tourism sector makes it important from global research perspective. The connection of tourism to many sectors suggests that any change in tourism practice can lead to changes in the actors of tourism. Just like any other industry tourism sector have had adverse effects both social and economic.

According to the article, tourism is seen as the main source of income in the foreign exchange. There has been increased destinations and tourism development. Tourism has been the source of employment for many people. Being internationally traded service tourism has captured the world’s largest markets. There are many incomes which are generated through tourism for example transportation of passengers. The article has further described the role of tourism as increasing global economy influence. Tourism has led to numerous job opportunities.

Analysis
What the two authors of the articles have in common is that they talk of benefits of tourism. Tourism has been seen as shock absorber which the communities more so in the rural set up. Tourism has led to generation of revenue in both the local and urban set up. There are different services which are paid for example entertainment, food, accommodation, travel and experiences. In the regions undergoing structural changes tourism has led to opportunities for development. For the young people tourism has provided opportunities for employment and training for both the young and the old.

My understanding of tourism
Based on my understanding, there are so many positive and negative impacts related to tourism. This will mostly depend on the extent to which tourism is developed in a particular area. The long term sustainability of tourists depends on the leader’s ability to maximize its benefit and minimize the cost. Previously tourists traveled mostly due to the attractive features of their destinations but today they are traveling to discover the features themselves without them being advertised before their trip. Tourism has become more of leisure to the tourists and an economic booster to their destinations (countries/places they visit).
