In my professional nursing career to date, I have acquired many opportunities that have enhanced my skill set and have provided me with a framework for achieving success and growth. In my current role as a Home Hospice Case Manager, I have been able to expand my knowledge and work with patients who have significant needs that require continuous attention and focus. This position has been largely instrumental in my professional growth and achievement, and has provided me with a framework to advance my nursing education and career path. However, I believe that my capabilities go above and beyond my current capacity; therefore, I will strive to expand these principles and to recognize the importance of enhancing my core values in nursing practice to achieve successful career outcomes. I am prepared to take the steps that are required to expand my contribution to nursing practice and to provide expert care and treatment to my patients to promote greater health and wellbeing and to improve their quality of life.
Gaps in Current Knowledge/Plan to Expand Knowledge
Although I have earned my Bachelor of Science degree, I believe that I am capable of expanding my education to achieve a Master’s Degree. This advanced level of education requires a high level of critical thinking and an understanding of strategic needs and expectations in order to accomplish the desired goals and objectives (Drennan, 2010). In a Master’s program, I will learn how to adopt a critical thinking strategy to learn how to effectively solve clinical problems that require advanced solutions. This process is essential to my professional growth and my ability to understand how to apply nursing policies and procedures to achieve best practice objectives. I must also participate in continuing education coursework and obtain training regarding new concepts as they emerge to remain apprised of the most recent changes taking place within the nursing practice framework. This process will support my ongoing growth and development as a nurse and expand my achievement to meet the required objectives of all of my patients, regardless of their health status. In nursing practice, knowledge provides patients with the best possible outcomes when it is properly utilized to promote high quality delivery of care and compassion in all interactions with patients.

Gaps in Current Skills/Plan to Expand Skills
Although I have acquired many skills to date, I believe that I have many new skills to learn as I advance in my career. For example, I am relatively early in the development of my leadership skills; therefore, I must seek opportunities to participate in leadership initiatives and to enhance my skill set in this area. Furthermore, I must also develop new skills and characteristics in evidence-based practice in order to better understand how research plays a significant role in shaping outcomes for nurses (Bradshaw, 2010). I am relatively unfamiliar with this area of nursing and must develop my skills in conducting basic and in understanding how to apply research to practice settings (Bradshaw, 2010). I believe that these opportunities will enhance my professional growth and enable me to become an expert in several key areas where the growth of nursing practice is critical for long-term success and the delivery of high quality care for all patients. I believe that although my current skill set is strong, there is always room for expanded growth and to accommodate the needs of my patients on many different levels.
Gaps in Current Accomplishments/Plan to Achieve Goals
With my current position, I am able to exercise sound and practical knowledge in solving many problems that require significant knowledge of core nursing principles and values. In this context, I believe that I am in a position to achieve greater growth and achievement through my experiences with patients that will support my future career endeavors. At the same time, I must employ strong and steadfast core values to improve practice settings so that my patients are given the best possible quality of life. Therefore, I must continue to develop my skills, knowledge, and career path in order to meet the required expectations of the practice. In this capacity, my own scope of nursing must be expanded so that I am able to effectively lead and support change as a professional nurse so that I am able to contribute at the desired skill level to improve the lives of my patients (Fairman et.al, 2011). My methods of delivering care to patients must be precise, while also demonstrating my core values and dedication to their needs (Fairman et.al, 2011). As part of my career goals and objectives, I strive to expand my leadership capabilities in favor of supporting my patients and the quality of care that they receive in the healthcare environment (Fairman et.al, 2011). My current role in hospice has taught me that there must be a greater focus on utilizing resources efficiently and promoting compassionate care so that patients receive the best possible quality of care at all times. Therefore, my future goals as a professional nurse will incorporate these tools in a manner that will support my ability to lead others and to improve the lives of my patients.
Conclusion
I have gained significant knowledge in my nursing career to date, and continue to build my portfolio to support my aspirations to expand my nursing education and to obtain a higher level position in the future. I am dedicated to helping others in need and strive to meet the core values and objectives of the nursing profession. I believe that these tools will be useful in supporting my growth as a professional nurse and in my ability to treat patients using advanced practice knowledge, skills, and the must current resources that are available. These tools will encourage my growth and my capacity to care for my patients to improve the quality of their lives and to improve the nursing profession as a whole.
