Chemical Exposure

605 words | 3 page(s)

Nuclear chemicals that people were exposed to during war times present a logical issue that needs to be addressed. Even though some of these nuclear chemicals were released many centuries ago, they remain indiscriminate in nature. Even less, these chemicals showed that they not only kill; they can also maim an individual regardless of whether they are part of the war conflict or not. Another problem of these chemicals that is they could bring lifelong damage that are likely to remain even after the end of the war conflicts. The use of nuclear chemicals creates air pollution that could bring horrible and damaging effects to all living things.

The problem that is associated with the nuclear chemicals that were used during war times is delineated in some societies where long-term effects have been felt. In places like Nagasaki and Hiroshima, the long-term effects of nuclear chemicals have led to the birth of children with physical deformations. Besides that, consistent signs and symptoms in people are in line with the kind of nuclear chemicals that they were exposed to hence not unless some research is conducted on the same; it becomes almost difficult to confirm the responsible agents. Some symptoms could be as simple as that of pulmonary heart disorder. The only approach that could be used to confirm the presence of nuclear chemicals is by analyzing samples in the laboratory. This leads us to an even larger problem because there are few laboratory resources that have been established with the fundamental objective of dealing with the analysis of samples that could be associated with exposure to nuclear chemicals. Hence, it remains fundamental that the international community in corporation with governments and states should develop enhanced mechanisms of aiding such activities.

There is not better interpretative analysis that should be carried out to justify the logic behind the health challenges that came in handy with the exposure to nuclear chemicals by some people during war times even though further developments could be made. Let us consider chlorine which is not a nuclear chemical. Consequently, chlorine is a toxic industrial chemical that is used for the purification of water. The chemical acts on waterborne diseases thereby allowing people to drink clean water. Despite its use, chlorine has adverse health effects on the eyes besides affecting a person’s ability to breathe because it produces hydrochloric acid one mixed with water. The bottom line of this is that chlorine is not yet efficient as a chemical weapon but the use of chlorine gas as a weapon is against the law.

Nuclear chemicals have different health implications that do not need further interpretative analysis except for a few cases. These chemicals have blistering agents that can induce blisters after falling. The chemicals also go on micro droplets making chemical reaction with moisture and skin can disable soldiers. Nuclear chemicals can cause blindness if it gets exposed to the eyes. Hence, the chemical has the capacity of both blinding a person and causing breathing complications when they get to the lungs. A majority of nuclear chemicals that some people were exposed to in the past were designed such that they cannot be detected by our senses. We cannot smell them, we cannot see them, and so we cannot run away from them. Even less, their levels of toxicity is so high such that they cause adverse health effects earlier enough before experiencing their actual feelings. The more challenging aspect is that the density of nuclear chemicals is higher than that of the air. This characteristic feature makes them settle in trenches and basements causing adverse effects in the long run.
