The American Cancer Society can provide education to the family friend or colleague by talking to a doctor who has knowledge of the type of cancer. For example, if you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, chances are your gynecologist can inform you more and answer any questions you may have. When it comes to support, there are locations for the American Cancer Society that you can visit and be informed about the cancer as well as having individuals there who can provide support and talk to you about any of your feelings or concerns relating to being diagnosed with cancer. The ACS service I would recommend would be going to your local ACS where you can talk face to face with an individual to talk to you and support you throughout the ordeal.

According to statistics published by the American Cancer Society, there will be an estimated 1.5 million new cancer cases diagnosed each year over the next decade. What factors contribute to the yearly incidence and mortality rates of various cancers in Americans? What changes in policy and practice are most likely to affect these figures over time?
The main factor that contributes to the yearly incidence and mortality rates of various cancers is SES (Socioeconomic Status). SES is based on education, income, occupation, social status in the community, and where the individual is living. Tobacco smoking, physical inactivity, obesity, excessive alcohol intake, and health status also plays a major role. When it comes to the changes in policy and practice and if it will affect the figures over time it will stay about the same either way.

The research program I would choose is prevention, which can help prevent cancer before it shows up if the individual does yearly check-ups and screenings for cancer, in this way, if an individual does have cancer it can hopefully be caught earlier to prevent the cancer from spreading or getting worse.
