The internet has revolutionized the world so much so that human beings have become increasingly dependent on it. It has brought about many changes both good and bad and in the process affected human communication and interactions. Many people across the US and the rest of the world have internet access and the rate of internet penetration keeps growing rapidly everywhere in the world. Corporations like Facebook are already making huge investments to connect more people to the internet. Internet has made it easier for people to connect with each other thereby making communication more efficient. Computers, smart phones and other smart devices allow people to communicate easily, listen to their favorite music, and receive important information such as weather and traffic updates and shop online. Internet has made life more convenient despite its inherent demerits and as such there is no doubt that it was designed to change our lives. It has affected our lives both positively and negatively.
First off, Human beings literary depend on computers for entertainment, shopping, cooking and many other daily activities. It would actually be difficult for human beings to survive without the internet in the contemporary society. The internet has eliminated almost all the barriers to communication by removing the space and time constraints. People with busy schedules can easily interact with their loved ones through online video calls and as such they are able to go on with their daily lives and still maintain regular contact with their loved ones. It has also made it easier for, teachers and students to search for information thereby improving the teaching and learning process.

Secondly, the internet has made life easier and less stressful by reducing the amount of time it takes to perform tasks because organizations can now have online conferences which enables researchers to share information and data easily. This has significantly lowered the cost of communication and improved healthcare access (Galiano‐Castillo et al. 23). For instance, with online data storage, patients do not have to travel overseas for treatment as physicians can exchange information online without having to travel. A doctor in India can conduct a scan, send it to the US for analysis and get the results online. This has made healthcare more affordable to the people thereby reducing the number of preventable deaths.
Despite the fact that the internet has had positive effects, it has also brought challenges to the society because of its negative effects. Online communication has had a negative impact on social relationships because people prefer to stick to the internet rather than visiting their friends (Gapsiso and Joseph 41). This has reduced the connection between people and the environment. In addition to this, the internet has freed the society from geographical barriers by creating online communities based on agenda and interests. People can now send information across the globe in seconds and this has lead to challenges in terms of privacy and security. For instance, terrorists use online tools such as social media to recruit unsuspecting young people; others also use it for spreading fake news and swaying opinions. .
In conclusion, it is evident that the internet has disrupted some elements of human life by distorting social interactions and making it easier for people to spread bad information. Nonetheless, it has immensely improved the lives of human beings by making communication easier and touching on all aspects of human life like shopping, entertainment, education , medication and other areas. There is no doubt that the internet was designed to change our lives and it has done so by exerting both positive and negative effects.
