Ethics is a set of moral principles, choices or standards which are used to guide an individual’s behavior and the decisions they will make in life. The reason why we should care about morality in business or leadership is it will set the conduct of an organization. The real goal in business is to satisfy the needs of different stakeholders. This will create larger profit margins from taking this kind of focus. As society and the values that are imposed upon us, will determine what is considered to be right or wrong. In the case of the doctor, he overstepped the boundaries by making his patient intentionally sick. This is so he can make more money off of them from increased visits. What he did wrong is to violate this person’s trust by placing his own interests over everyone else. This created more harm to individual and it did not lead to a favorable outcome for them. The only person who benefited from this arrangement was the physician. As a result, these changing values are highlighting how the doctor crossed an unethical boundary when he decided to place his own interests above that of the patient. The six pillars of character include: trust, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring and citizenship. It is possible for people from various cultures to define these pillars differently. This is because they grew up in a culture which has contrasting beliefs about values. The ramifications of having concrete standards are that there will be conflicting views about what is considered to be right and wrong. I am someone who has experience in working with business and is studying to receive my Masters degree. My view on ethics is one that is illustrating the way it is an important part of all successful organizations. The six pillars were selected because they are highlighting the challenges impacting a number of different firms. These basic principles are utilized to help them to identify the most effective courses of actions in contrasting situations.

The one pillar which I would select (aside from the six) is integrity. This based on the fact that customers want someone who can tell them objectively about what is occurring and will troubleshoot their problems. Those organizations and individuals who are embracing these elements will establish a way of showing how they care. This means that they will tell them their opinion on different situations and offer them with objective advice. The most successful firms have built their businesses based upon this idea.
The case with Martha; requires talking with the bank about calling the loan and explaining the situation. If they can see that there is a change, they may be more willing to grant the business an extension for another year. This means reporting all information accurately and explaining what happened to the loan officer. The basic principles which are involved include: trust, respect, fairness and caring.
