My organization shows one of the signs of being an innovative organization. First, there is creative abrasion. We have meetings every single week where members of the company are asked to give their ideas for new products. Whenever people bring these ideas, others ask probing questions that are intentionally designed to be difficult. They are designed to test just how much the first person has thought through the idea. In doing this, the organization is able to provide a great platform where ideas can be challenged.
There is a cultural belief that all good ideas have to be able to stand up to scrutiny. If ideas cannot stand up to scrutiny, then they are scrapped outright. The environment can be a bit hostile in some cases. People can get frustrated and think they are being picked on. The ultimate goal, though, is to ensure that all of the angles have been considered with every idea. People do not just roll over and accept ideas. This can sometimes create a lack of efficiency. When the culture is so based on the idea of challenging everything, it can be hard for things to simply flow. That is alright, though, and it creates a situation where ideas are explored fully.

There is creative agility within the organization, too. Whenever ideas are tested, we evaluate them after a month long period. The idea is to see whether they have been effective to this point. If they have not been effective, then we are quick to try something different. We treat these ideas like experiments in their own right. They are experiments that can be revised until the right combination is found. It is hard because this means that all ideas are fluid, but it has also been effective at producing innovation in the processes that are used by the organization to meet stakeholder needs.
