Instructional methods and materials for teaching and learning must be properly selected by any learning institution to ensure efficiency in the transmission of knowledge from the teacher to the leaner (Bastable, 2014). To achieve this, several factors must be considered because the methods and materials might have to change from one institution and course to another. There are different methods of teaching and they should be used concurrently to supplement one another so as to increase the level of understanding, and extend the attention span of the learner.
As a learner, the most preferred method is modeling, this is because it involves a lot of practical and demonstrations which is quite ideal in the nursing career. The practice of nursing is mostly practical in nature,; hence, improves my understanding and ensures good memory in times of evaluation. It also increases the competence level on the actual field after training. For materials I prefer the use of resource persons as they give firsthand information and they can be subjected to questioning in order to seek clarifications. The use of practical case studies is also helpful as it acquits the learner with the kind of situations to be encountered in the field after training.

As a teacher, I am required to use a combination of methods to achieve a number of objectives. I am comfortable with the lecture method of instruction, this method is efficient considering the level of learning of learners in a nursing class and or their intellectual ability. The method also helps in covering the whole content within the given timeline. Experimental teaching is also applicable as it gives learners the opportunity to experience and see the learning activity, this gives them a good understanding and good results during assessment.
