Wireless Networks and Tutorial Review

665 words | 3 page(s)

The prospect of Wi-Fi in two minutes is very appealing. This article seeks to demonstrate the rubrics in and around the tutorial guiding the setup of such a system using the Xirrus Rapid Deployment Kit.

What the Tutorial Teaches
The tutorial gives a guide on how to set up a Wi-Fi network within less than two minutes. It uses the Xirrus Rapid Deployment Kit that is provided by Riverbed. This is a convenient solution for temporary network requirements as it is easy to set up (Tian Hao, Ruogu Zhou, Guoliang Xing, Mutka, & Jiming Chen, 2014).

The Xirrus kit comes packed in two portable cases as evident in the tutorial. It comes with a tripod stand, mounting hardware, protective covers, data cables, and a setup guide showing the simplicity. The tripod mounting stand is set up, and the access point is mounted on top of it, which is 10 feet above the ground. It results in maximum coverage. The protective covers make it withstand any weather conditions, hence can be used outdoors too without running the risk of damaging the access point (Tian Hao, Ruogu Zhou, Guoliang Xing, Mutka, & Jiming Chen, 2014). Afterward, all one needs is to connect the data cables and switch on the system and then be able to access the internet comfortably.

How good the tutorial is
This tutorial efficiently simplifies this whole process into a matter of two-minute steps that are executable by anyone without any fuss. This is achieved without being overly verbose and within a concise time. The steps are simple, but one may be tempted to say they are oversimplified. But then the purpose of this Wi-Fi kit is to provide the internet in emergency situations and events. In the same breath, whatever solution is turned to in such condition, it has to be one that is fast to execute within the shortest time possible (Andrianova, 2017). The tutorial makes this possible, hence an effective way to save time. I have had an experience with other tutorials, although not entirely of this kind, but something close to this. While I had hoped for something that would be straightforward in its wake, I ended up being taken around through so many steps that I all but got confused in the process. Then the exasperation set in, and we ended up having to forego INTERNET access during the three-day seminar that we had. The particular tutorial does a good job since, as mentioned earlier; it helps achieve the objective of the product in its ease of setting up and use.

Usefulness of the tutorial
In most cases, we tend to treat tutorials like this to be a thing for the technology geeks around. Majorly, we would most certainly appreciate the Wi-Fi access without putting much thought into the process that may have been involved since it is perceived as complex (Andrianova, 2017). Good news is that, with this tutorial, no special technical skills are required. Everything is simplified. As a result, anybody interested in using the Xirrus kit or any similar one would be able to put this into use.

This tutorial taxes one’s ability to comprehend what is going on in the visual sense. However, the background music helps in maintaining the attention of the viewer. The superb lighting makes it even more appealing to the eye and helps pass the message more effectively. The lack of verbal instructions as the video progresses makes it one of a kind and makes it more intriguing. While these may backfire and end up not achieving the effect intended, they worked out in this tutorial to a great extent. One could take a lesson or two in these elements of the tutorial especially if one intends to make a video tutorial.
