1. Innovation is capable of bringing about positive change as it allows individual people as well the whole communities to stay flexible and prepared when facing numerous disruptive issues of the modern-day world. In the face of rapidly growing global population along with the changing climate, some communities no longer can count on surviving using the traditional ways of living and relying on the same type of work and/or social organization there grandparents were satisfied with. Instead, many people and communities today rely on innovation for improving their ways of living, making their lifestyle more efficient, and more valuable in the global scene. In this sense, innovation can help bring about positive transformation to a small community or to the whole society by upgrading the way people go about satisfying their essential needs (like cell phones and internet did with the need for communication), by increasing the productivity of people’s work and efforts (like steam engine did back in the day), by increasing the comfort and quality life (like the invention of electric light did), etc. Overall, innovation is often associated with positive change as it increases the comfort of human life, opens up new possibilities and opportunities for people, and lift the responsibility for completing various mundane tasks of the individual, thus, leaving them with more time to pursue other affairs.
2. Along with bringing about positive change innovation is also associated with substantial disruptive power both on a small and large scale. Because many innovations make up alternatives to other, older ways of going about doing something people experience the need of, implementing innovation means abandoning some of the processes and approaches that were used before. Although doing this may seem perfectly fine, it is important to recognize that when it comes to various processes in the way business or society operate, there are usually people associated with each of the processes. This means that by switching to a more innovative way of doing something we strip numerous people of their relevance to society and often of their income. Particularly, this is exactly what happened to many factory workers once factory owners started switching to automation. Secondly, the implementation of innovative solutions is always associated with risks that cannot be foreseen. It is important to remember that every community, organization, and society make up an intricate system where all the parts are closely interrelated. This means that changing one of the parts of the working whole to an innovative alternative can disbalance the system in rather unpredictable ways.

3. Although innovation is often thought of as an unexpected hit of insight and creativity that lead to the creation of a new innovative solution, in real life, innovating is associated with a particular process with known steps within this process. The first step is the search. It involves studying the sphere or the subject matter for aspects that are in need of improvement and for opportunities for innovation. This step requires people to have a wide background knowledge so that the innovation opportunities are not missed. The second step involves selecting which of the identified opportunities for innovation to pursue. The innovation team has to focus on the specific task rather than trying to fix all the issues they managed to see on the first step. The third step of implementation involves bringing innovation to life. On this step, the new products are created and the new processes are built, introduced, and incorporated into the routines. The last step, capture, involves capturing the valued of the innovation. In most of the cases, this means collecting the financial profits that were generated by the innovation but it is important to keep in mind that even if the innovation did not become successful, the team still collects the value of experience and new knowledge.
